SLEEPY HOLLOW ROD RUN AND SHOW ‘N’ SHINE
SLEEPY HOLLOW ROD RUN AND SHOW 'N' SHINE
The Coasters Car Club 22nd Annual Sleepy Hollow Rod Run and Show 'n' Shine is scheduled for August 11, 12, 13, 2017.
The three day event held in Sechelt, BC, also know as the Festival of the Rolling Arts, hosts classic cars, hot rods and specialty vehicles.
***Registration form for the 2018 Sleepy Hollow available in the new year.***
This family event starts on Friday with cars registering at Hackett Park from 1:00 PM until 5:30 PM for the Rod Run to Halfmoon Bay.
At the park, there will be a concession stand selling food and beverages.
Prior to the Rod Run, there will be a free corn roast for the participants. This gives everyone a chance to meet and greet local car club members and out of town guests.
The 30 km Rod Run cruise starts at 6:15 PM and is lead by our local RCMP with 450+ classic cars winding their way through 3-4000 spectators that line the highway from Sechelt to the Halfmoon Bay Fire Hall. Participants are always amazed at the warm welcome and enthusiasm by the cheering crowds that gather alongside the roadway. The spectators make signs, dress in costumes and place couches/ lawn chairs in their driveways. You also see a number of barbecues and house parties in full swing. See the You Tube Video of the Rod Run.
The Rod Run is finished upon the return trip to Sechelt. Participants can go to A&W, eat at local restaurants and pubs, or head to their accommodations and rest-up for Saturday events. Or why not join us for a burger & fries at the Blue Ocean Golf course in Sechelt after the rod run? We have Ben Klein (Elvis impersonator) accompanying us on the rod run and he will be performing at the golf course, after the rod run. The burger & fries is 15.00, beverage extra.
Burnouts are ZERO tolerance during the Rod Run. Anyone caught doing burnouts will have all weekend privileges revoked immediately and there will be NO refund. There are many families that gather alongside the road and for their safety we cannot risk any liability brought on by a few simple minded folks who insist on doing the burnouts.
The liability is the responsibility of the individual and not the Coasters Car Club. We do not want anyone to get hurt, injured or maybe even killed by someone´s negligence. If you wish to do burnouts, the Sunshine Coast Drag Racing Association hosts the Drag Races on Sunday and you can do all the burnouts you want in a safe and controlled location. Please be advised, the RCMP will take action against the individual and potentially cancel future Rod Runs if we do not take measures to enforce our zero tolerance policy for burnouts. Your cooperation is appreciated.
Show 'n' Shine
The Show 'n' Shine starts Saturday morning on Cowrie Street in downtown Sechelt and parking for participants commences at 8:00 AM with the assistance of Coasters Car Club volunteers. The Show ´n Shine for the spectators starts from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM and the trophy presentations begin at 3:00 PM. Many of the trophies are donated from Sunshine Coast businesses and individuals and are presented for various categories judged by knowledgeable car enthusiasts, except for the People´s Choice and Mayor´s Choice awards.
If you missed registration on Friday night you can register at our central location in front of the Dock where our tents and booths are set-up. Coasters Car Club members will be there to answer any questions and assist you, wearing their bright green staff shirts.
The traffic control assistants will only allow vehicles on the street that have pre registered and have headlight stickers displayed on their driver side headlight. All vehicles have to be parked on the street by 12:00 PM to participate in the Show 'n' Shine.
During the Show 'n' Shine there are numerous door prizes drawn all day at random for the participants. There is also a ladies poker walk open to spouses of the participants which involves collecting playing cards from the local merchants who have donated prizes and gifts. Local restaurants and food concession stands are available from volunteer organizations who are doing community fund raising. In addition, there are several vendor´s booths to purchase Sunshine Coast souvenirs and car enthusiast accessories.
A big seller is the limited edition "Coasters Car Club Sleepy Hollow T-shirts".
